Family Life-Styles Ministry

(FLSM) is an independent faith-based entity which promotes healthy family lifestyles and marriages through holistic, comprehensive and integrated services to build sustainable mutually fulfilling marital-relationships without borders.

Family Life-Styles Ministry

1. To advance the FLSM’s mission by implementing innovative programmes to revitalize ailing marriages through counseling, education and coaching of individuals and groups.

• 2. To educate, counsel, coach and mentor couples, who desire to build, strengthen, and sustain the marriage-bond through integrated services, inspiring presentations, “spouse-talks” and as well as round-table discussions.

• 3. To help model a Christ-centered union that is anchored on the solid rock through speaking engagements to groups and individual counseling sessions designed to reach both singles, pre-marital and married couples at various establishments and churches.

4. To promote healthy lifestyles by providing coordinated holistic, comprehensive and integrated services through harnessing existing structures in the community, locally and abroad in the form of joint-efforts, invitations and referrals.

• 5. To solicit sponsorship for subsidizing professional services, books, speaking arrangements and including counseling services more accessible. (Note: The intent is to make professional services accessible and affordable, so that no one who needs “intervention and/or recovery” services is turned away for lack of means).

About 5 to 10 percent of the targeted population. Interventions are mostly enrichment programmes in nature. The program services are more streamlined, efficient and intended for a rapid response for a group with similar interests or needs, who usually fall between the cracks or tend to be neglected in the scheme of traditional programming.

Programme services are structured for individuals or a significantly small group

About 1 – 5 percent of the targeted population. The services are time-sensitive, more intensive and may require durable counseling designed to address specific needs. Interventions include intensive one-on-one professional counseling sessions; and including referrals for rehabilitation services to a specialized residential facility for more intensive care based on the severity of needs.

Statement of Need:

Statement of Need: The contemporary marriages are in trouble across the board. Satan has unleashed his attacks on the marriage institution at all sides and from every avenue. Global trends reveal that 50 percent of first-time marriages of the 21st Century end in divorce. For second and third marriage attempts the stakes are even higher and the divorce rate accounts for 60-64 and 70-74 percent, respectively. Looking at divorce statistics reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and published in The Times of Swaziland on June 03, 2015, the statistics are shocking for a small country as Eswatini. There were 236 divorces that occurred within a time frame of 11 months, between April 1, 2014 – February 28, 2015. This means that approximately 21 divorces were filed each month between the stipulated timeframe.
These data unequivocally support the notion that today’s marriages are in dire need for deliberate and intentional integrated mechanisms for building and sustaining healthy marital relationships. There seems to be a need for innovative interventions and support services for married couples that are geared toward building, revitalizing and sustaining healthy marital union. As a matter of fact, marriage forms the base of a family, which in turn is the nucleus of society at large. Therefore, it can be argued that if marriages are “ailing without intentional remedies” to address or meet the challenges of contemporary marriages of the 21st Century, the effects of neglect permeate to and impact the entire families and as well as society at large.
